Arrangers were the important ingredient for all the bands during the Big Band Era and beyond, but they were particularly important in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. From the beginning, Tommy Dorsey sought out and hired the finest arranging talent, then added top musicians and singers, plus his own smooth trombone sound. Paul Weston and Axel Stordahl come immediately to mind as two T.D. arrangers who went on to greater public acclaim; there was sax man and arranger Dean Kincaide who put together what has been reported as the best-selling Tommy Dorsey recording of all time, Bill Finegan wrote for Dorsey into the Fifties, and Sy Oliver's ideas produced some of the most memorable Dorsey recordings. A 4-CD set from JASMINE at a very keen price featuring the four biggest stars of the Big Band era: Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Harry James and Glenn Miller. 92 tracks, nearly five hours of the best remembered tunes and songs, featuring along the way singers like Frank Sinatra, Helen Ward, Helen Forrest, Jo Stafford and Dick Haymes, not forgetting The Modernaires.
