post-war parallel of the Glenn Miller story has been the rise of Ray Anthony.
Not since Glenn has there been a dance band lead-er with Ray's organisational
skill and iron determination to succeed. Like Glenn, Ray believes a band has to
do more than just play music if it is to top the field, and like Glenn, Ray's
basic operating policy is that running a dance band is a business and "When you
work, you've got to work." And when Ray began his second season on June 28 as
star of the Chesterfield Summer television series on CBS, replacing Perry Como
for eight weeks, the coveted spot was just another indication of how well that
basic operating policy has functioned.
