A definite must for lovers of the Kenton-touch. Early recordings from 1943-47. Much of it not easily found before. Not a 'rewind' of much heard early numbers, but instead radio show and dance hall recordings of standards given the Kenton magic - nothing 'off the wall'- no complex concert performances. Just a strong Kenton Band with some powerful individual contributions, plus bursting, energetic scoring from Pete Rugolo. Just listen to the last fast section of Vido Musso's solo in 'Body & Soul' - enough to even have 'oldies' jitter- bugging again! The CD closes with a most relaxed and appealing early version of 'Peanut Vendor' . Nothing forced about this CD. Just a top band in melodic, but lively form. Pure big band nostalgia. Don't miss it.
