Volume I of Bop-In' Britain showed, in general
terms, the almost surreptitious way in which the new trend in American jazz
permeated our consciousness; the younger musicians, in the main, taking to it
like the proverbial duck/water whilst the majority of the established bands men
and/or swing musicians were far more cautious. This album, in continuing the
story, shows that by the early 1950s, in spite of what was now little more than
passive resistance from the earlier musical generation and, of course, the very
vocal but ridiculous Trad-v-Modern lobby of those days, a growing number of
working and highly articulate young musicians were showing that bebop had become
their natural mode of jazz expression.
