Fats WALLERMore Radio Rarities
The best of the two-fisted pianists, a gifted
composer, an inordinately entertaining singer - and a man who could, and did,
play deeply moving music on both electric and pipe organs. This was Thomas
"Fats" Waller, who died (a mere 39 years old) two weeks before Christmas in
1943, yet today his music remains refreshingly bright. This JASMINE CD reissue
presents the ebullient Waller in two settings. One is at work in NBC's New York
studios in July, 1938; the other admirably displays Fats' many talents at
Chicago's well-remembered Panther Room of the Hotel Sherman in December, 1940.
It was a time when the amiable Waller was at his artistic peak, a nationally
popular showman whose records sold briskly and who had appeared in motion
pictures and on hundreds of radio broad-casts. Another hour of pure joy by the
great Mr Fats Waller.
