The INK SPOTSMore Memories From We Four

The Four Ink Spots recorded for the American DECCA
label from 1936 until 1951, and during that time, made it onto the American Top
30 Hit Parade charts with no fewer than forty-six titles. Of these, twenty
reached the Top 10, six of them making it to the number one slot, a phenomenal
record indeed - if you'll pardon the pun! Twenty of these can be heard once
again on a companion JASMINE CD release entitled "We Four - The Best Of The Ink
Spots" (JASMCD 2546). This collection includes a
sprinkling of hits, together with some of the group's lesser known but
nonetheless interesting recordings, all of which deserve another hearing.
Included are three titles which may prove unfamiliar to American collectors, and
one song which was of special importance in the successful career of the Ink
Spots. Three titles included in this collection, all recorded in 1940, were
never released as 78 rpm records in America at the time and have probably only
been known to collectors in that country who are lucky enough to have acquired
the English BRUNSWICK discs. "I Wish I Could Say The Same" has recently appeared
on CD but as far as the writer is aware, the other two titles, "Why Didn’t You
Tell Me" and "Don’t Ever Break A Promise", are re-issued for the first time."
