Bing CROSBYCowboy Country - Crosby Style

There have always been plenty of singers to perform
"Country & Western". Amongst them was one who, although not considered a
genuine cowboy singer, certainly knew how to interpret the genre. He was an
American institution named Bing Crosby.Several songs on this CD were written by
names not usually associated with country music. Jimmy Van Heusen supplied
"Country Style" for the Crosby picture "Welcome Stranger", whilst M.K. Jerome
and Jack Scholl contributed "My Little Buckaroo" for the 1937 film "Cherokee
Strip" starring Dick Foran. "Blue Shadows On The Trail" was penned by Eliot
Daniel and Johnny Lange for the Disney animated picture "Melody Time" featuring
Roy Rogers and The Sons Of The Pioneers. A Paramount ‘short’, "Arizona
Sketches", presented "Prairieland Lullaby" by that doyen of film music Victor
Young and for which Frank Loesser supplied the lyrics. Richard Whiting’s last
movie score before his death in February 1938 was for Warner Brothers’ "Cowboy
From Brooklyn" starring Dick Powell. Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics for
Whiting’s "Ride, Tenderfoot, Ride" and whilst Powell recorded the song, Bing
didn’t, so this performance is taken from a "Kraft Music Hall" radio
broadcast. The biggest surprise amongst the non-country writers is better known
for his show tunes and songs with intricately witty lyrics - Cole Porter. "Don’t
Fence Me In"
